Gujarat Titans Players List- On 25th October 2022, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the two new upcoming teams of the Elite Indian Premier League (IPL). Lucknow and Ahmedabad were the winning cities after the two highest bids from their respective owners. 

Gujarat Titans is a franchise cricket team based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India that will play in the Indian Premier League. The IPL is starting from 26 March to 29 May 2022. Ahmedabad IPL Team was founded in 2021, the team will play its home Matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.

The Irelia Company Pvt Ltd is one of the prominent equity investment firms based in Luxembourg. The company aims in investing in global sports and has invested in a number of sports including football, Formula One, and rugby. Their latest addition is the sport of cricket as they bagged the ownership of the Ahmedabad-based IPL franchise. 

Reports said that CVC Capitals had tried to build a strong business model with Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals in the past, however, the talks were not fruitful and hence failed to enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) market.

The Ahmedabad-based new IPL Team Gujarat Titans have roped in former Indian Pacer Ashish Nehra as team head coach. Nehra would be overall in charge of the Squad. 

The former Team India pacer was earlier approached by several IPL franchises for the role of bowling coach and mentor, however, he refused all deals as he always wanted to build a team.

Now, in IPL 2022, Ashish Nehra has been appointed as the head coach of the Ahmedabad-based IPL team. And he will be responsible for team building in the mega auction. In addition, he will also be involved in strategy formulation and team structure.

42-year-old Ashish Nehra was earlier part of the coaching group at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2019. For the last two seasons, the pacer has avoided just taking up the coaching role.

Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten has been appointed as the mentor of Ahmedabad. He will be the mentor of Gujarat Titans for Tata IPL 2022.

Earlier there was some speculation about Kirsten’s inclusion as head coach, however, all the claims were debunked as Ahmedabad announced the coaching staff.

Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten have a fruitful working relationship for a long time. They both have been a part of the RCB coaching group together. Also, Ashish Nehra was part of the Indian group that won the ICC ODI World Cup 2011 under the coaching stint of Gary Kirsten.

Gujarat Titans Appoint Vikram Solanki as Director of Cricket Operation 

Ahmedabad-owned CVC Capital has also signed former England batsman Vikram Solanki as director of cricket operations. Ashish Nehra also shares a great rapport with Vikram Solanki, who has previously worked as a coach in the IPL.

While many experts have lauded Ahmedabad’s surprise move to include Hardik Pandya, some have expressed their concern as there are fitness issues with the all-rounder.

Hardik Pandya was released by Mumbai Indians due to his disappointing performance in the previous season. Though Hardik’s form in recent times does not give much impetus to any franchise, however, his abilities speak volumes of his cricket and thus he is on this list.

The all-rounder is working extensively to regain the fitness that has plagued him in the last three years. He is likely to be in good shape before the next IPL season. He is also working on his bowling which is a matter of concern.

Rashid Khan- Confirmed for INR 15 Cores 

Rashid Khan has also been signed by Ahmedabad for an amount equal to Hardik Pandya. Khan will get Rs 15 crore for his services in IPL 2022.

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan was in the limelight after he was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of IPL 2022. Khan wanted to remain as SRH’s first-choice player, while SRH wanted Kane Williamson to be given the respect that resulted in a gap between Rashid Khan and SRH.

Shubman Gill- INR 7 Crores 

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Shubman Gill has been named as Ahmedabad’s third draft pick. Gill has been bought at a cost of Rs 7 crore.

It should be noted that Ahmedabad badly wanted young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan to be the third draft pick, however, the southpaw opts to move to the auction table.
