In the 1st Test, Joe Root was criticized for making the wrong decisions. Especially, With the critics for dropping both Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad did not go down well. Both have been included in the side for the Oval Test.

On the eve of the Test match England coach, Chris Silverwood said, “Obviously they were hurting, but there is the belief they can win this series,” to AFP.
