Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers Match Postponed due to Covid-19 outbreak

The Big Bash League (BBL 2021-22) match between Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers to be played on 05th January 2022 evening at Metricon Stadium has been postponed. 12 Brisbane Heat players tested positive and had PCR tests for COVID-19 and now currently isolating.

Despite its best endeavors, the club was unable to recruit enough replacement players in the 24 hours since the first case was identified to make up the required squad of 13 for tonight’s match.

“The Big Bash League will soon advise a new date for the HEA vs SIX matches. The Heat’s game tomorrow against the Melbourne Renegades at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong, remains scheduled to go ahead. The club is working through the recruitment and testing requirements for players to take part in that match,” stated an official release.

“At all times the Big Bash League, in consultation with our Clubs, Broadcasters, Partners, Governments, and venues have worked tirelessly to make the best decision for the whole competition, with health & safety the top priority,”

Further talking about the situation, Alistair Dobson said: “In this instance, the decision to postpone today’s match was the only option available given the total cases within the Brisbane Heat squad and the inability to secure the required number of players fit to take the field.”
