Gujarat Titans (GT) is a franchise cricket team based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. That will play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. The Team was founded in the year 2021, the team will play its home matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera. The CVC Capital Partners owned this franchise. The Gujarat Titans team will be captained by Hardik Pandya and coached by Ashish Nehra.
The IPL Governing Council issued an invitation to tender for 2 new sides in August 2021. A total of 22 companies declared an interest, but with a high base price, there were no more than 6 serious bidders. The BCCI allowed a consortium of 3 companies to bid for each franchise. The CVC Capital Partners won the rights to operate the Ahmedabad franchise with a bid of ₹5,625 Crore. Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, the franchise drafted Hardik Pandya as their captain. The franchise also picked Shubman Gill & Rashid Khan.
Gujarat Titans unveil team logo in Metaverse
On 20th February 2022, CVC Capital-owned Gujarat Titans unveiled their logo in the metaverse ahead of the IPL 2022, which is expected to start in the last week of March 2022.
The IPL 2022 edition will be a 10-team tournament as 2 new teams were added– Gujarat Titans (GT) owned by CVC Capital and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owned by Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG Group – have joined the cash-rich league.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans picked Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya for INR 15 Crore ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. He has been appointed as the captain of the Gujarat Titans team. Also, Gujarat added Rashid Khan Afghanistan leg-spinner, for INR 15 crore, and Indian opener Shubman Gill for INR 8 crore.
