The India national cricket team secured 12 important ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points by winning the second Test match of the two-match Test series against the Sri Lanka national cricket team by 238 runs.

The pink-ball Test match between Rohit Sharma-led India and Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The bowlers of both the teams and the lone batsman Shreyas Iyer dominated the first day of the pink-ball Test match. Iyer managed to score 92 runs off 98 balls on the tough batting surface, which included 10 incredible fours and 4 spectacular sixes.

India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Score & Highlights- Day 1 

India managed to score 252 runs with the help of Iyer’s brilliant innings and Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant’s brilliant innings. Kusal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne opened the innings for Sri Lanka and Jasprit Bumrah opened the innings for India. Bumrah bowled well in the first over and in the second over he cleaned up Kusal Mendis for 2.

In the 5th over of the innings, Bumrah dismissed Lahiru Thirimanne for 8 and Mohammed Shami dismissed the Sri Lankan captain with a brilliant ball in the 6th over. Dhananjay de Silva put on a 14-run partnership with Angelo Mathews before being dismissed in the 12th over, which was bowled by Mohammed Shami.

Sri Lanka crossed the 50-run mark in 15.5 overs. Sri Lanka lost the wicket of Charit Aslanka on the score of 50. Senior batsman Angelo Mathews was also dismissed for 43 runs off 85 balls and Sri Lanka was at stumps on 86/6 on the first day.

On Day 2, Sri Lanka started where they went on the first day and continued their struggle against the world-class bowling unit of the Indian team. Sri Lanka lost the wicket of Lasith Embuldeniya in the 33rd over and reached the 100-run mark in 33.5 overs. Then, Sri Lanka was bundled out for 109 in 35.5 overs for the loss of three quick wickets of Suranga Lakmal, Niroshan Dickwella and Visva Fernando.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal were able to add only 9 runs in the first innings, but in the second innings, they managed to score 42 runs off 64 balls, the latter being dismissed by Lasith Embuldeniya in the 11th over.

Rohit Sharma and Hanuma Vihari batted very well against the Sri Lankan bowlers and put on 56 runs in 119 balls. Praveen Jayavikrama sent Hanuma Vihari back to the pavilion in the 34th over and India’s No. 3 team could only manage 35 runs in 79 balls including 4 fours. In the 36th over, Jayavikrama was also successful in dismissing former India captain Virat Kohli, who managed to score 13 runs off 16 balls including a four.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant played a sensational inning and became the fastest Indian to score the fastest fifty in Test cricket. He completed his fifty in just 28 balls to break Kapil Dev’s record of 30 balls.

Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Praveen Jayavikrama on the last ball of the 42nd over. Pant managed to score 50 runs in 31 balls and his innings included 7 fours and 2 amazing sixes. Then, Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja put on an amazing 66-run stand before Jadeja was clean bowled by Visva Fernando and Iyer was dismissed by Embuldeniya. Also, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin were dismissed early and India declared on 303/9 giving Sri Lanka a mammoth target of 447 runs to chase.

Chasing the target, Lahiru Kumara was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the very first over and Sri Lanka was 28/1 in 7.0 overs till stumps on the second day.

The Sri Lanka national cricket team got off to a good start on the third day of the pink ball test match against India. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis batted brilliantly against the Indian bowling unit and added 97 runs in 115 balls before the dismissal of Ravichandran Ashwin. Mendis scored 54 runs in 60 balls including 8 fours. Sri Lanka lost the quick wickets of experienced Angelo Mathews, Dhananjay de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella and Charith Aslanka.

In the end, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne scored a brilliant century but it was not enough to help Sri Lanka win the match. And with the help of the total domination of the Indian bowling unit, Rohit Sharma & co. After winning the match, they won the two-match series 2-0.
