Ahead of the IPL Auction 2022, Mumbai Indians (MI) had to make some tough decisions by choosing player retention. MI had a No. of match-winners in their Team squad but had to let go of most of them just to stay within the player retention limit.
Mumbai Indians have retained Captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard, going into the new season of IPL 2022. However, Mumbai Indians will attempt to re-sign their former players in the auction.
From the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a lot of new names have come out. Notably, these players have been noted down by the scouts due to their individual performances in the match. More names will also be added from the Vijay Hazare Trophy to that list.

In IPL 2021, He was one of the finds of the season for the Delhi Capitals. Avesh Khan featured in a total of 16 games in the last season and took 24 wickets at an average rate of 7.37.
Delhi Capitals hasn’t retained Avesh Khan. That means MI can look for him in the Mega Auctions. He would be a great addition to their Mumbai Indians Team and can complement MI star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
He was part of the RCB squad but didn’t get a chance to make his debut in Mumbai Indians. However, in the upcoming season of IPL, the Mumbai Indians could take the side of him.
In 2016, since making his T20 debut, the right-hander has scored a total of 600 runs in 31 games at a strike rate of over 130. Mumbai Indians have released both the Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan & Mohammed Azharuddeen, with their wicket-keeping skills.
The right-hander can open the innings and Azharuddeen is a free-scoring batter can give the team a quick start. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Azharuddeen scored 137 runs off in 54 balls against Mumbai Indians last year.
Abhinav Manohar made his debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021/22 and was impressed all season. He is a Bengaluru-born player and has played for Karnataka in 4 matches, by scoring 162 runs at a strike rate of 150.
In the Limelight on the Domestic Cricket, Abhinav Manohar match-winning knock of 70 runs against Saurashtra in his maiden appearance. In the finals, Manohar was also the top scorer for Karnataka. He is a middle-order batter and would fit easily into the starting XI for the MI.
