IPL 2022 – 3 Choices of Overseas Players of Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings (PBKS) went at the IPL 2022 Auction, by purchasing 23 players to complete their Team squad of 25. They bought Shikhar Dhawan (Indian Opener), for Rs. 8.25 crore and Kagiso Rabada (Fast Bowler) South African for Rs. 9.25 crore. However, their most expensive purchase at the IPL 2022 auction was Liam Livingstone (England all-rounder), who was bought for Rs. 11.5 crore.

Apart from all others, Punjab Kings (PBKS) also purchased experienced England Jonny Bairstow (wicketkeeper-batter) for Rs. 6.75 crores & Odeon Smith (West Indies all-rounder) for Rs. 6 crores. Ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, they had retained only 2 players – Mayank Agarwal for Rs. 14 crores & Arshdeep Singh for Rs. 4 crores.

IPL 2022 – Punjab Kings Overseas Players

  1. Kagiso Rabada
  2. Jonny Bairstow
  3. Liam Livingstone

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada South African fast bowler will miss the start of Indian Premier League 2022 due to international duty. But after then, Kagiso will be among the 1st-choice overseas picks for Punjab Kings. In recent years, the South Africa player has been one of the most successful pacers in the T20 league.

Kagiso Rabada

Last Year, Kagiso had an average season for the Delhi Capitals, but still managed to take up 15 wickets from as many matches in the IPL Tournament. Kagiso was brilliant in the 2019 & 2020 editions, claiming 25 & 30 wickets. He has one of the best yorkers, while his short ball can also make it tough for batters. Kagiso is a game-changer, picked up 180 wickets in 135 T20 games at an average rate of 21.74 and a strike rate of 16.5.

Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow (wicketkeeper-batter) will also miss the start of Indian Premier League IPL 2022 as England is engaged in a battle with West Indies (WI). And, just like Kagiso Rabada, Bairstow is likely to be a preferred choice in the playing XI whenever Jonny is available for the matches.

Jonny Bairstow

The right-hander Jonny has played 166 t20 games, scored 3904 runs, including 3 (100) and 22 (50), at a strike rate of 137.56. In 28 IPL matches, he has scored 1038 runs at an average rate of 41.52 and a strike rate of 142.19. Jonny Bairstow formed a great opening combination with David Warner at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the 2019 IPL season. He ended the edition with 445 runs from 10 matches at an average rate of 55.62 & a strike rate of 157.24.

Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone (England’s destructive batter) had a forgettable IPL 2021 campaign. He managed only 42 runs in 5 matches for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at a strike rate of 102.43. Liam was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 Auction.

Liam Livingstone

In the last season due to his poor runs, it wasn’t surprising to see Liam Livingstone being sold for Rs. 11.5 Crore at the IPL 2022 Auction. Liam was also the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Representing Birmingham Phoenix, he scored 348 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 178.46.
