RPSG Group owner Sanjeev Goenka has once again invested in IPL. This time one of the two new teams included in the IPL, Lucknow Super Giants became the most expensive franchise. The team is owned by RPSG Group, which previously owned the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise between 2016 and 2017. On 25 October 2021, during the auction in Dubai, Sanjeev Goenka, owner of RPSG Group, bought the team of Lucknow for 7 thousand 90 crores. IPL 2022 Auction: Lucknow becomes the most expensive franchise in IPL history

After buying this team, Sanjeev Goenka said, “Very happy to be back in IPL. It was a long wait. We had planned a lot for this bid. I would like to thank all the people who have joined the league. This comeback has been immense. Pleasant.”

Not much 7 thousand 90 crores

After buying the Lucknow franchise, Sanjay Goenka said that the amount of 7 thousand 90 crores for a franchise is not much. On forming the team, he said, “We are confident that BCCI will bring us on par with the old owners. We will not suffer any kind of loss. We have the experience of creating new teams in IPL even before this. We have seen Rising Pune Supergiants in similar situations. The team was formed. This experience will come in handy and we will be in a better position.”

The amount of Lucknow is more than the total amount of 8 teams of IPL

The cost of the Lucknow franchise, which was sold for 7 thousand 90 crores, is more than the starting price of the eight franchises already involved in this tournament. There are already eight franchises involved in the IPL, whose total starting price is 5 thousand 425 crores. In this sense, the cost of Lucknow is 1 thousand 665 crores more than the total sum of the rest of the teams. At the same time, Ahmedabad has become the second most expensive team in IPL history, which has been bought by CVC Capitals Group for 5 thousand 166 crores.
