Rohit Sharma replaces Virat Kohli as Team India's ODI Captain

IND vs SA – On Wednesday, BCCI has announced that Virat Kohli has been replaced by the One Day (ODIs) Captain. Team India Senior Batter Rohit Sharma has been named as the new ODIs captain of the Indian Cricket Team along with the T20 leadership with immediate effect. Rohit replaces Kohli in the ODI Captaincy, who had taken over from Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

After the announcement, Twitter has flooded with varied reactions from netizens. Rohit Sharma was already serving as the T20 captain since Kohli stepped down from the post Earlier after India’s T20 World Cup campaign this year.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr. Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI & T20 teams going forward,”

After the announcement of India’s Test squad, the BCCI said in a statement for the South Africa tour. Although Virat Kohli had quit the captaincy of T20, he was keen to continue as ODI & Test teams Captain. However, the BCCI on Wednesday named Rohit Sharma as the Indian team’s ODI captain as well.

The decision was made when the team India for the 03-match Test series against SA was named.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma has also been named as vice-captain of the Test Squad even though India. In Test Match, Team India has retained struggling batter Ajinkya Rahane.

Rohit’s first assignment as full-time ODIs Captain will be the 03-match ODI series in South Africa. The first two one-dayers of the Test series will be played on 19 & 21 January at Boland Park in Paarl. The 3rd ODI will be played on 23 January at Newlands in Cape Town.

Rohit Sharma’s record in ODIs as a Captaincy

Rohit Sharma has led India in ten ODIs in which India has won 08 ODIs and lost only 02 ODIs. In the 10 Matches, Rohit has smashed 543 runs at an average of 77.57.

The BCCI on Wednesday announced a Test squad of 18-member for the upcoming South Africa Tour where India is scheduled to play three Tests, three ODIs starting with the 1st Test match from 26th December in Centurion.
